WHAT DO YOU DO FOR A LIVING/ HOW LONG?
I serve as an Integrative Counseling, Psycho-Spiritual Therapist, Teacher & Speaker for a combined total of 25 years
DO YOU EVER THINK ABOUT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH IN YOUR PROFESSION?
I constantly think about my own mental health in my profession as I work with others assisting them with their mental health concerns on a daily basis.
WHAT UNIQUE CHALLENGES DO YOU ENCOUNTER SPECIFICALLY FOR YOUR JOB THAT HAS AN IMPACT ON YOUR MENTAL HEALTH THAT OTHERS MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT?
I'm not sure if my challenges are unique in a sense that I believe all mental health practitioners experience challenges with 'burn-out', stress, anxiety and being overwhelmed with the job
WHEN DID YOU REALIZE THAT YOU SHOULD ALSO CONSIDER YOUR MENTAL HEALTH WHEN TAKING ON DAY-TO-DAY ACTIVITIES?
I immediately realized that my own mental health was critical when carrying out the duties and responsibilities of my profession. I developed a self-care and support system long before I began my work as a counselor and therapist.
HOW DO YOU MANAGE THOSE STRESSORS ON A DAY-TO-DAY BASIS?
I workout, meditate, read, journal, talk to wise counsel, and listen to music to manage my stressors on a day-to-day basis.
HOW DOES BEING MENTALLY HEALTHY HELP IN YOUR FIELD OF WORK OR ON THE JOB?
Being mentally healthy is the only way to really perform my job and my field of work. Without proper, balanced, sustainable mental health and wellness, there's really not much to offer with my field of work.
WHAT DOES EUSTRESS LOOK LIKE FOR YOU AT WORK? AT HOME/AWAY FROM WORK?
Good stress is any stress which doesn't turn into full-blown anxiety and can be managed properly.
WHAT IS SOMETHING THAT YOU WOULD TELL SOMEONE JUST STARTING IN YOUR PROFESSION OR A YOUNG PERSON WHO ASPIRES TO BE THE PROFESSIONAL THAT YOU ARE?
Find a good therapist and go to therapy often.
